A Prophetic Word in Troubled Times

A Prophetic Word in Troubled Times

I.  THE PREPARATION OF THE PROPHET, vv. 1-7

– A Word of Judgment

– A Word of Separation

– A Word of God’s Faithfulness

When your brook dries up, it may well be that God has greater miracles in store for you.  It may be the only way God can get you to move!

Five Sources of Trouble:

– God

– The devil

– Our Choices

– Others’ Choices

– Planet Earth

If it is God, then SUBMIT:

1 Peter 5:5-7 – “Be clothed with humility, for God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.  Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”

If it is the devil, then RESIST:

James 4:7 – “Therefore, submit to God.  Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

If it is our choices, then REPENT:

James 5:16 – “Confess, your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed.”

If it is because of others, then FORGIVE:

Colossians 3:12 – “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering, bearing with one another, and forgiving one another… even as Christ forgave you…”

If is is simply the result of a fallen world, then WAIT:

Psalm 27:14 – “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage.  And He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord.”

II.  THE PERCEPTION OF THE PROPHET, vv. 8-9

– A Right View of Jehovah

– God Gives Direction, not Details

– God Calls Us our of Comfort Zones

God was sending him from Cherith – A place of cutting away, to Zarephath – A smelting furnace.  “Out of the frying pan and into the FIRE!”

III.  THE PRESUMPTION OF THE PROPHET, vv 10-16

– An Illogical Person – A Widow

– An Illogical Request – Water and Bread

– An Illogical Promise – Abundance

Giving causes something to happen according to God’s eternal principles of seedtime and harvest.

SEEDTIME AND HARVEST

– We REAP  what others before us have SOWN;

– We REAP the same kind that we SOW;

– We REAP more than we SOW; and

– We REAP in proportion to what we SOW.

IV.  THE PROOF OF THE PROPHET, vv 17-24

– God does not leave us in our state of doubt.

– Dare to ask boldly and specifically.

– Recognizing the power God has to replace death with life serves to remind us that He can take care of anything else in our lives.

“How can I repay the Lord for all his goodness to me?”

Psalm 116:12
